A Short Review of your Year in Review

There are a lot of people on the indieweb who carefully track every book they read, movie they watch, game they play, album they listen to, etc., etc., etc. Some of those people then write thoughtful reviews on their site to share what they liked and didn't like. Even with my growing list of blogs I follow (thanks, RSS!) I'm going to miss lots of interesting people saying interesting things about things I might find interesting. Which is why I am so thankful for the "Year in Review"[1] still being a thing people do.

I track some things but I am terrible at sharing after the fact (new year's resolution maybe?[2]). Partially because it is a lot of work to do and partially because writing[3] and posting reviews makes me nervous for some reason. But indieweb people show up year after year! This holiday season alone I found over a dozen new books and games, several of which I've already devoured thanks to the break from work. And even though we don't know each other, getting a recommendation from a real person who doesn't profit in any way, or even know I followed their recommendation, warms my heart.

Thank you for taking the time. Thank you for sharing what you loved. I hope you read and watch and play amazing things this year. I can't wait to read your next Year in Review.

  1. I am thankful for people who do this. The now-ubiquitious "wraps" never seem to do much for me. ↩︎

  2. lol no. but maybe. ↩︎

  3. I didn't have any problem talking through reviews for eight freaking years though. ↩︎
